Christian Non Profit

Archive for September, 2009

If no one had written that jesus said "Love your enemies" and someone were to say it now they would certainly be considered liberal. I see nothing conservative in anything Christ taught.

The jesus that they follow is obviously a different person, perhaps the evil twin of the one written about in the bible

If you sacrifice something is should be put beyond use or not used again, This is why sacrificed weapons are usually found broken. jesus’s body was reused, thus voiding the preceding sacrifice, so what was the point?

fairy tales need happy endings

The military has essentially turned into a Christian organization. I am in a position to know this. Everything from christian indoctrination in boot camp, forced prayer meetings and bible studies (upper chain of command) to advancement discrimination based upon religion. They ask what your religious preference is when you enlist, if your dog tags say None, they assume you’re an atheist. There is heavy discrimination against all non christians, not just atheists.

Do Christians support this?

There are several lawsuits in the works to push back on this trend, and there have been many successes in doing this.

If you wish to help, the Freedom from Religion Foundation does a lot of good work in this area. There are also groups, such as the Military Religious Freedom Foundation that pushes back on religious encrouchment in the military.

What is the Jewish equivalent to the Christian holy sacraments?

Posted by admin On September - 26 - 2009

For example, if you are not confirmed into christianity, you are not technically Christian. Is there a Jewish confirmation as well? Do you have to have a bar mitzvah?

In general, not really. Jews do NOT have any rituals that are regarded "as imparting divine grace."

Converts need to have a circumcision (if they’re male), and immerse in the Mikvah. They do not need a Bar Mitzvah.

A Bar Mitzvah is just a ceremony celebrating the fact that the boy is a legal adult acc Jewish Law, and therefore is now able to do Mitzvot, and is responsible for his actions.

There is a church in my area called Church of the Nazarene. I am of the Baptist denomination, and I want to know the difference between the nazarene denomination and the Baptist denomination.
Does a Nazarene believe in the Rapture and tribulation?

Nazarenes are spiritual descendents of John Wesley, like the Methodists. Methodism came out of the Church of England in the 1700s. Baptists are descendents of the reformer Zwingli, with sprinklings of John Calvin and the seperatists in the Church of England.

They are organized differently, but in general share similar view of Scripture.

Baptists tend to be Calvinistic, meaning the believe that God to one degree or another decrees salvation. Nazarenes believe in freewill (not that a lot of Baptists don’t).

It’s hard to spell this out in a few short sentences.

I tried telling others about jesus but I couldn’t get them to come in faith with Jesus. I’m thinking of studying ministry in college with all my other majors I’m planning in doing. Would ministry better help me understand the Bible and be more effective with telling others about their eternity? Sources?

Simple answer is yes and no let me explain..

You seem to have a very passionate heart and that’s great but what passionate christian tend to do is they think they need more knowledge , now there a certain truth to that , but Jesus is more than to be study he someone to have a relationship with.

Think about a close friend or husband, wife , girlfriend boyfriend….there only so much study you can do on them like ask friends, and family members what they like or even if you cheeky read their journals etc , but if you don’t have a relationship with then or build experiences with them will you really know them of course not!

if you going to tell people about Jesus its like telling someone about your new Ipone they be more prone to hearing you view if you have an Iphone and that you have used it , and spent allot of time playing with it.

So conclusion is spend time building a relationship with Jesus, listen to him, and remember the more you spend time with him the more you find you don’t need to start conversation to people about Jesus, people start asking you how come you living life good, how come when you have problems you have the strength to get through them etc that’s when you can tell them your experiences of how Jesus pulled you through the storms of life…

People don’t need text books they want to know that Jesus actually is working in living people today!

How can I organize a charity event?

Posted by admin On September - 24 - 2009

I wanted to organize a concert held for charity, with local bands playing, but I don’t know how I can do this. I’m pretty sure I need to pick a specific charity for it, and I picked aids in Africa. I’m a high school student, and in addition to wanting to help, I was wondering if I would get charity credits for it.
if it helps… I live in Virginia, near Leesburg!
The exact charity is:

Millennium Promise

You will need to book a venue. Your going to have to pay up front. Book local bands and shoot for them to volunteer there time as opposed to paying for their appearences. Sell tickets in advance to help cover the cost of the venue, sell tickets at the door but at a higher rate that way you actually make a profit. Your going to need to check with a soda/water company and see if they have fundraising programs, this way you can offer beverages and make a profit. If you plan on making this a yearly event your profits need to be the seed money to get the one for next year going AND enough to donate to a charity.

Think about your charity also. Is there a large concern in your community for what you picked out? Most often it’s the local charities that have more success than for those that go outside the US, especially with our economy now. You may want to poll your local citizens and see what the response is to your charity, if they would attend your event, so on and so on.

Good Luck!

How do I start my own Charity?

Posted by admin On September - 24 - 2009

I want to start my own charity. What do i need to do exactly? Anyone with experience in this?

I founded a public charity, which I am still running. Here are the basic steps:
1) Incorporate in whichever state you wish to incorporate out of. If you incorporate out of the state that you operate in, you will have to file a foreign corporation license request with your state’s Secretary of State. Although you technically do not have to incorporate, it is the generally accepted way to begin and not incorporating can cause you problems later on. This means that you have to create a set of bylaws, articles of incorporation, and establish who your initial corporate officers are going to be.
2) File a form 1023 with the IRS and pay the fee. This is the request for determination for a non profit organization. Eventually, they will likely ask for further information to assist in thier deliberations on the subject. Further information on this is available via the IRS website at www.irs.gov.
3) Wait… The IRS moves about as fast as molasses running uphill in January, so the determination process can literally take years. You are able to operate in the meantime, and the determination of the IRS is retroactive to the date of incorporation, but many potential donors want the determination letter or listing on the IRS website before they will even consider you for donations. Our determination took about 9 months, but we had a service to help with the process. It still took a year for us to show up on the website, which makes a big difference for potential large money and corporate donors.
4) Either learn how to write grants or get a grantwriter. Just because the organization is non profit does not mean that everybody who works there does not get paid. You’re going to need money. Grantors and donors are your real clients, those whom you serve are your services, you need to be able to convince your clients to pay for those services. Therefore, you will need to be able to write… A lot!

This can seem scary to a person that is inexperienced… It was a little for me, too. I chose to utilize outside assistance for my incorporation as well as my IRS determination process. These cost money. Overall, though, I am satisfied with the results from these services for the money that I paid. If you are interested, email me and I will be happy to refer you to them.

Good luck!

How to raise money for a charity through a bike ride?

Posted by admin On September - 24 - 2009

I’m planning a bike tour that follows the Oregon Trail from west to east. I want to make it a charity ride. What are the steps to pull this off?

I’m thinking a walk-a-thon type thing where people can sponsor me per mile or for the whole trip.

To start your own charity bike ride, first identify which charity you wish to raise money for and contact them to share your idea. Their support and verification of your efforts is an absolute. They will probably be happy to take your money. Now, focus on the logistics of the actual ride. How far are you riding? Will your ride involve overnight stays? If so, where and how (motel, camp, etc.)? Do you have someone who can drive sag support for you? Do they allow vehicles on the Oregon Trail where you are riding? What are the conditions of the Oregon Trail you are riding on? What time of year will you ride and what weather conditions can you expect? Will you be riding alone or with friends? Next step is to train, based on answers to the preceding questions. Remember to keep it fun. This will be an experience you will cherish the rest of your life. Having written all this, have you considered signing up with one of the organized charity rides in your area? There probably are a number of rides with all the logistic concerns taken care of. You will get positive energy and encouragement from the other riders. And your ride will benefit whatever organization you are riding for. There is safety in numbers.

I’m not gay or anything but with everything they say is wrong. I am ashamed and they should be ashamed they call themselves "christians" What do I do if they come to my town? Should I try to tell them off even if it won’t do anything or make signs like "GOD HATES WESTBORO BAPTIST CHURCH"?

First off, on behalf of all of the other sane Baptists and Christians alike, we do not, in any way, condone, accept, or agree with the beliefs of the Westboro Baptist church. Though I do not agree with gay/lesbian relationships, I do not feel that they should in any way die for their actions. God sees our sins as equal. So, to wish a homosexual to die is just as bad as being homosexual. In the same sense, Christ did not die for us and our sins so that He could send homosexuals to hell. He died because He loves us, this includes homosexuals as well. He doesn’t like their homosexuality, but continues to love them nonetheless. I think the best way to deal with these people is to get the Patriot Guard involved. We had a soldier who was KIA in my town here in Texas, and I doubt that the WBC even gave it a forethought. It’s not illegal for them to protest, but it is very very very upsetting that they would do such actions. It hurts me to know that they would refer to our soldiers as "lazy idiots with nothing else better to do than fight for a country full of fags." Inform someone in an official city position about the offense that WBC causes. Most of all: Pray for them. They need Christ just as much as those who are lost.
