What is the history of the Baptist denomination in Christianity?
On December - 23 - 2009
I’m Baptist and I understand the ideas and practices of a Baptist, but how did it start? Like Lutheran was the first Protestant denomination after Martin Luther broke from the Catholic Church. Any serious answers are thanked for in advance.
They came from the Church of England in the 1600s. A man named John Smyth broke away because he didn’t believe in infant baptism. They were originally called Separatists. After some of them came to the New World, their beliefs got intermingled with the Anabaptists to give us what we know today as the Baptist church.
Considering that time in history, the first Baptists were heavily influenced by the teachings of John Calvin and Menno Simons.
Since Baptist teaches and believes the doctrines that are found in the Bible and were first used in the Book of Acts (which is the first church), then Baptist has existed since literally the time of Jesus.

the Baptists are similar to Christians and have a lot of the same idiotic rituals, such passing around bowls of tiny muffins while creepy music is playing in the background.

A bunch of weirdos who cannot agree among themselves. That is why there are so many Baptist sects.
Really David? The Westboro Baptist existed during the time of Christ?

Among the Puritans of New England there arose a group who came to question the validity of their baptisms on the grounds that they had been baptized by Anglican Priests who may not have been of the "Elect". They chose to have their baptisms re-performed by Puritan elders whose election they believed had been sufficiently demonstrated. This group became known as the "Rebaptizers", later as "Rebaptists". Since members of this group chose as adults to undergo baptism some came to question the validity of Infant baptism and this subgroup of Rebaptizers began to be known simply as "Baptists". Conflict between the Baptists and the rest of the Puritans arose over infant baptism and other maters of doctrine until They were forced to leave the Massachusetts Colony and resettle, under the Leadership of Roger Williams, in the Colony of Rhode Island.

There goes David trying to revise history again. Now he is saying that the first Christians were Baptists.
So the apostles were Baptists? And the Bible was compiled by the Baptists in the Baptist Councils of Hippo and Carthage?
