How do Christian and Pantheistic views of the afterlife differ? How are they similar?

christians view the after life as you either go to heaven, hell, and in some cases even purgatory. The cool thing about Pantheists is that there is no set belief of an after life. Some Pantheists believe in joining with the divine, non-existence, or even reincarnation. Since the concept of hell in Pantheism is utterly rejected by most if not all, the closest to the Christian thought process would be joining the divine. Though, this is still not highly similar, it does have similar ideas to Hinduism and Taoism.

How old were you when you realized you wanted to be a christian & at what age?

I was baptized into the Church at about age 3 months. It could have been earlier, but we were waiting for my godmother to come down from Wash. state.

Speaking as christian it is difficult and or takes me a long time to forgive others for what they’ve done to me. How can i become a better forgiver?

i don’t know what to tell you, except to pray about it. i tend to let things go right after they happen. i don’t know for sure how i got to be this way…lol. i don’t usually stay mad for long and don’t really hold grudges. maybe that’s it… i can’t stand animosity and always try to resolve conflicts immediately. i tend to fret if i have angry feelings over something… and i hate that, so i give it to the Lord. the Bible teaches that we should pray for our enemies.

now, having said all that, i still struggle with forgiving the scum who murdered my brother-in-law. :(. it happened 10 years ago and even though i’ve prayed for him many times, sometimes those hateful feelings still surface. he’s shown no remorse. i know that shouldn’t matter, but he’s such a skanky scumbag. he tried to grab a cop’s gun after his guilty verdict. my husband said that was just so the guys in prison (who saw him on the news and knew he was coming to prison) would be afraid of him. maybe that’s what it was. i don’t know, he’s an angry, vicious person who also threatened my husband in the courtroom. he was happy that he killed my brother-in-law. i know i’m wrong for feeling this way about him. maybe some day i won’t feel this way anymore, but i don’t want him to go to heaven. i want him to be punished eternally :(. sometimes i think i’ve forgiven him, and then i realize i haven’t. it’s hard.

If any Christians want to argue that the Christian hell concept existed in the Old Testament, don’t argue with me; argue instead with the Jews whose people wrote the Old Testament. They know their ‘holy book’ doesn’t contain the christian hell concept but you believe it does, even though it is their book that they have been reading and interpreting it for thousands of years in their own language.

The concept of hell you speak of-if you mean a fiery eternal place of torment-isn’t Christian.

The book of Revelation chapter 20:13 (King James Version) says this"And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them; and they were judged every man according to their works."

How can a person be dead in hell yet be burned alive?

Also, if the soul is immortal-as Christendom teaches not the bible, the Bible says the soul is mortal Ezekiel 18:4-how does a soul that leaves the body at death burn?
Hell is mankind’s common grave.

The ancient Jews knew people died, and were just that dead ,as the Wise King Solomon stated at Ecclesiastes 9:5, and 10. "For the living are conscious that they will die, but as for the dead they are conscious of nothing at all……………

and 10 "All that your hand finds to do, do with your very power for there is no work nor devising nor knowledge nor wisdom in Sheol the place to which you are going."

Hello. I am working on a project and I would like to know what are Chirisna symbols of mercy besides pelicansd and lilies? The lily is logical, but why is the pelican a christian symbol of mercy?

Please let em know and please listas many items as possible. I would appreciate it. Thank you.

Mercy = “The act of sparing, or the forbearance of a violent act expected.” - Noah Webster’s 1828 Dictionary

Pelican:
The Pelican is a symbol of the atonement and the Redeemer, and is often found in Christian murals, frescos, paintings and stained glass. The pelican was believed to wound itself in order to feed its young with its own blood. In the hymn "Adoro Te," St. Thomas Aquinas addresses the Savior with, "Pelican of Mercy, cleanse me in Thy Precious Blood." Allusion is even made to this belief in "Hamlet" (act iv): "To his good friend thus wide I’ll ope my arms And, like the kind, life-rendering pelican, Repast them with my blood."

The Cross stands as a symbol of God’s mercy.

Some Bible verses on MERCY:
MAT 5:7 Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy.

23:23 "Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You
give a tenth of your spices–mint, dill and cummin. But you have neglected
the more important matters of the law–justice, mercy and faithfulness. You
should have practiced the latter, without neglecting the former.

LUK 6:36 Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful.

ROM 12:8 if it is encouraging, let him encourage; if it is contributing to
the needs of others, let him give generously; if it is leadership, let him
govern diligently; if it is showing mercy, let him do it cheerfully.

COL 3:12 Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe
yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.

13 Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have
against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.

JAM 2:13 because judgment without mercy will be shown to anyone who has
not been merciful. Mercy triumphs over judgment!

Can a christian really do good works (Gods standard of good works) without the Holy Spirit willing and working through them?
So, is a Christian really working out from there salvation (which God is doing through them), not working for?

1 Corinthians 15:10 But by the grace of God I am what I am, and His grace toward me was not in vain; but I labored more abundantly than they all, yet not I, but the grace of God which was with me.

In this next passage Paul is telling Christians to take their salvation seriously because God is at work in their lives. He isn’t saying that they can add to their salvation with their good works.

Philippians 2:12 Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling; 13 for it is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure.

I heard that if you get bitten by a vampire that you become one yourself but in my opinion no christian in hell would want to become one of those so what on earth can the true Christian do should they happen to feel the teeth of Dracula penetrate through their neck one day?

Is there a remedy or cure please?

Our blood is like Kryptonite to vampires..
We wouldn`t change, our blood will instead turn the vampire back to human.
:P

Christians make out that they merely introduce their children to Christian myths about Jesus, the god of the bible and christian dogma about heaven, hell and eternal souls, but this is just more Christian spin, right? They don’t offer their children a choice, do they? Or maybe they do but they offer it in such a way to guarantee their child’s choice to become a Christian, by saying, “You can choose to reject jesus if you like, but you’ll be tortured in hell for eternity,” is this how they do it?

My mom did, but she did it because her mother did it, and her mother did it because my great grandmother did it to her, and if you follow the path about 500 years ago, the person who persuaded my distant relatives into this religion was holding a sword… so I don’t really blame them that much.
I am what I am now… Atheist

Whats a good non-denominational christian church in the Moore or South OKC area that has worship service during the week? My husband & I are new to Oklahoma and we both usually work on Sundays. We’d like to find a new church to go to, but are having trouble finding one that has mid week service.

You may want to investigate this one- a midweek Bible study, and they may be having midweek services during Lent. They’re not nondenominational, but they’re definately solid and Bible-believing.
