Luke emphasizes such issues as salvation, Jesus as the Son of Man, Jesus' concern for largely ignored segments of society (women, children and the poor), prayer and the Holy Spirit.

Luke's image of Jesus is presented as the "compassionate Savior" of the world, with love and compassion for all people, whether rich or poor, Jew or Gentile. He reaches out especially to poor, the marginalized, the oppressed, the women and the poor and outcast of society. Luke emphasizes divine mercy, depicting God as the Father who forgives his prodigal children with unbounded love.

The story of the widow of Nain teaches us about Jesus' mercy to a grieving mother (Luke 7:11-17).
Jesus says that the human person is one who does not depend on only food and other necessities for life but also relies on the Word of God (Luke 4:4). He also states how the human person is to be toward others. The human person is to show mercy to those who love (Him), and those who oppress (Him), everyone (Luke 6:36).

Luke is primarily concerned with the theme of salvation and this book tells the story of God's purpose to bring salvation in all of its fullness to all people. The sermon at Nazareth (Luke 4:16-30) brings this out nicely. Some of Luke's best known stories not found on other gospels are the story of the Good Samaritan (Luke 10:25-37) and of the Prodigal Son (Luke 15:11-31).
References :
My notes and study bible, plus information at:

In terms of the conditions he was in. Joseph of Arimathea was a wealthy man who offered him a tomb that was meant for someone likewise. This was symbolic, in much the same way as the wise men's gifts. It was done as an honor to Christ himself for what he had performed as the Savior of the World, choosing to experience poverty, death, and other infirmities that mortal men would suffer, rather than use his divine power to surpass all of it. He dealt in matters that concern the eternal welfare of all mankind, which easily deserved honors beyond measure, as far as the story goes.

As was stated earlier in Isaiah, God certainly had the general details of his burial planned out.

Isaiah 53: 11-12 states, " He shall see of the travail of his soul, and shall be satisfied: by his knowledge shall my righteous servant justify many; for he shall bear their iniquities.
Therefore will I divide him a portion with the great, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong; because he hath poured out his soul unto death; and he bare the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors."
References :
The family of Jesus were very poor. Joseph (his father) had died by this stage and his family, or most of them had given everything up to follow Jesus. Following Jesus often meant leaving one's
family (Mark 1:16-20 ; Luke 9:59-60). I know that Mary had been following Jesus and as far as I know Jesus' brothers did not believe in him at first but eventually did, one of them went on to spread the word with Paul later. Many of the people who followed Jesus had given up all their worldly possessions to do so. Imagine how captivating he must have been for so many people to just look at him and when he asked them to follow him, they gave everything up and just followed him.
As for the tomb. According to scripture 'it was a new tomb' which had been 'hewn out in the rock' by Joseph of Arimathea who had apparently prepared it for his own family's use. This was very common with rich people in those days because of the difficulty of digging graves in the rocky ground around Jerusalem.
References :
Holman Binle dictionary

There are non-canonical sources that have Joseph of Arimathea as Jesus' uncle. This is not in the Bible, but is written in other places.

There are even stories of Jesus as a young person travelling with Joesph on business trips.

Tombs were pretty expensive. Joseph was a follower of Jesus, and also quite wealthy. Even if he wasn't related, he may have felt it the right thing to do. Not everyone had tombs - as I said, they were pretty expensive, especially close in to Jerusalem.
References :
A soldier guarding a lonely grave is much scarier than guarding a coffin. Also, an angel lifting a tomb cove is not as dramatic as rolling a stone away from a crypt. Besides, god couldn't cast an earthquake to scare off the Roman guard in a graveyard, too many other bodies would be damaged.

I do not doubt the ressurection for one bit- i'm a true Evangelical.
References :
A Christian who witnesses as repentance for watching porn

Joseph asked for the body of Jesus to be buried in his sepulcher, which was a space above ground carved out of a rock. All of this was planned by God, to lay the body of the Son of God in the burial place of a rich man above ground rather than six feet below.
References :
You need to read the Bible. It was prophesied in Isaiah that he would not

9 He died being reckoned as wicked, and buried in a rich man's tomb
Though he had done no violence, nor was deceitful as some did assume .
References :
Isaiah 53:9

forgot?
Book, chapter and verse for that, please.

I have heard lots of sermons concerning the borrowed tomb. You do know that he did not use it for very long, don't you?
