Christian Non Profit

christianity was just a sect even after Jesus’ death. Why so? If someone like Jesus came today and performed miracles, naturally everyone in the world would believe him instantly. Then why at that time people still opposed him knowing that everything about opposing God and going to Hell is true?

Non sequitur: jesus did not perform miracles in order to attract followers.

Belief in god is not needed for salvation, only good works are - belief just helps direct people towards good works, good deeds - and living a kind and helpful life.

For, as it says in the bible: "belief without works is dead" - James 2.20

Hell was not in the early church. It was made up by the time the catholics came along, a man last name Dante, wrote a piece of literature called something like Hells burning Inferno, and the catholic church took it to scare the people and keep them in control, it was never in the original church. You can find this on the internet.

Also the religious system at the time didnt want to loose their jobs. If they believe in Jesus they would be out of a job, no more sacrifices etc. Ask a Jew or search the internet.

Because they came to great numbers through preaching and traveling. They didn’t use force, enslavement, and invasion to gain numbers, like some religions.

Jesus preached mainly in Israel. He had many, many followers. Enough that the Romans and the Pharisees were really worried he would stray their subjects away from them. That’s why he was killed.

Why would you believe in a miracle instantly?
Their is a large group of people called skeptics that live in the real world.
They only believe in things they can see, touch, weigh and measure.
No matter how many miracles performed right in front of them the odds of them
believing that God truly worked a miracle would be slim to none.

The Pharisees, Herod, the Romans elite, Judas had hardened their hearts to all the wonders of Jesus
Christ surely they weren’t going to believe the Apostles when they started to do the same thing after Jesus ascended into Heaven.
The whole social order would have been put into an uproar, the Pharisees and ruling classes, would have lost their livelihoods. They would had to change their entire routines for the day and their popularity would no longer admired them and loooked at them as leaders.

It takes a long time to slaughter those who don’t agree with you. Especially if they’re putting up a fight about it, as my ancestors did. That’s why.

Hel is an entity, a gentle guardian of the dead, not a place. Sheol as mentioned in the bible for non believers in their faith is merely eternal death ("sheol" translated means "grave"). Which isn’t a bad thing in my faith. Misinterpretations annoy me, which is probably their "thing".

I’m a Nordic Heathen. Sensible in some ways in other words.

  12. Ellen Said,

Jesus never performed miracles. The Greek writers of the Gospels used sources from their native religions to tell Jesus’ narrative.

Here’s something relevant that I wrote on another question that you might be interested in:

It’s definitely possible that Jesus never existed.

Note all the similarities and parallels between Jesus and many popular Greek myths.

It’s common for Greek mythological figures to have a divine father and a mortal mother (much like how Jesus was supposedly the son of God and a mortal woman who was allegedly a young virgin). For instance, Hercules’ father was Zeus, the god of sky and thunder, and his mother was Alcmene, a mortal.

There are also many parallels between Jesus and the cult of Dionysus. Wine plays a very symbolic role in both. Both represent the dying-god mythological arch-type. Both have a ritual involving bread and wine.

Basically, Christianity is nothing more than a Judaized version of Greek paganism.

    Now there are two possibilities:

    1. Jesus was never really born. The Greek writers of the four Gospels merely invented a Jewish character and used sources from their native religions to tell his narrative.

    2. Jesus did exist, but his narrative was nothing like in the Gospels. Paul, unable to convince the Jews that Jesus was the messiah, decided to preach Jesus’ teachings to the Greek gentiles. Jesus’ narrative wasn’t written down until later, so it got distorted over time, much like the children’s game telephone, and when it was finally written down it was very unlike the original narrative.

I’m not sure if I should believe the first or second possibility, but if I had to chose I would go with number one.

No, everyone around the world would not believe him instantly. Criss Angel performs the exact same "miracles" that Jesus did constantly, and almost everyone knows that he’s just an illusionist. Only superstitious Stone Age followers would believe him instantly.

Really??? When Jesus came ( and before the New Testament was written ) we were under the law of Moses… that law plainly states " Thou shalt not have any Gods before Me"
And your claim that if He were to come today and perform miracles we would "ALL" believe is as far from the truth as you can get… that has already been proven… the Holy Words of God have been available for all and not all believe… faith is something you have… it isn’t something you get… to have faith is to believe in something that you have not yet experienced but believe it will happen…
Jesus will come again… and if you are waiting till then, it will be to late…

  15. William F Said,

3000 people became Christians the first time Peter preached.
The number grew to five thousand the next time he preached Jesus.

This even after the leader of the movement was crucified and put to utter shame before all the people; being betrayed by the religious leaders into the hands of their hated enemies.

Gamaliel, the great and esteemed Rabbi, who was the Apostle Paul’s tutor made this comment, when the Sanhedrin was contemplating murdering Peter and John:

"But a Pharisee named Gamaliel, a teacher of the law, who was honored by all the people, stood up in the Sanhedrin and ordered that the men be put outside for a little while. Then he addressed them: "Men of Israel, consider carefully what you intend to do to these men. Some time ago Theudas appeared, claiming to be somebody, and about four hundred men rallied to him. He was killed, all his followers were dispersed, and it all came to nothing. After him, Judas the Galilean appeared in the days of the census and led a band of people in revolt. He too was killed, and all his followers were scattered. Therefore, in the present case I advise you: Leave these men alone! Let them go! For if their purpose or activity is of human origin, it will fail. But if it is from God, you will not be able to stop these men; you will only find yourselves fighting against God."

    Matthew 13

11 He replied, "The knowledge of the secrets of the kingdom of heaven has been given to you, but NOT TO THEM.

    Luke 12:32
Do not be afraid, LITTLE FLOCK, for your Father has been pleased to give you the kingdom.

    Matthew 20:16
For many are called, but FEW chosen.

It was/is not Jesus’ intention to convert many people in ‘this present evil age’; just enough to rule with him in the kingdom for 1000 years.

No-one is going to hell. The doctrine of hell is blasphemous to a loving God.

Christians are deceived about it, because of mistranslations in the bible and church traditional teachings.

Jesus is the Saviour of the world. He will not fail at this task, despite church teaching to the contrary.

    1 Corinthians 3:15
If anyone’s work is burned, he will suffer loss; but he himself will be SAVED, yet so as through fire.

    Deuteronomy 4:24
For the LORD your God is a consuming fire…

    Mark 9:49
Everyone’s going through a refining fire sooner or later, but you’ll be well-preserved, protected from the eternal flames.

    Zechariah 13
1 …to cleanse them from sin and impurity…
    9 …I will bring into the fire;
I will refine them like silver
    and test them like gold.

    1 Timothy 4:10
…the living God, who is the Saviour of ALL men, and especially of those who believe.

The rest of humanity will be converted after the 2nd resurrection in the Judgement period.

    Isaiah 26:9
When your judgements come upon the earth, the people of the world LEARN RIGHTEOUSNESS.

That is the Gospel - the GOOD news.
