Why did Jesus predict that the world would end during the 1st or 2nd Century?
On July - 27 - 2009
In Mark 8:39 to 9:1 and Matthew 13:30-33, jesus says that some of the people hearing his speech would still be alive when he returned. Unless there are 2,000 year old Jews walking around, then this statement is incorrect. How do christians deal with this unfulfilled prophecy?
Between Nero and Caligula, you’d probably believe the world was coming to an end soon. The idea caught on and the author of Matthew elaborated on it.
Christians today get infected by a catchy meme.
Ignore it, that’s the way Christians roll, the new testament if read casually points to the world ending soon after Jesus dies, however they just interpret around this.

I do not think no one knows, we must ask him directly.

Christians have been saying the world is going to end since the origination of Christianity. Several prominent christians throughout these 2000 years have proclaimed an imminent end to life as we know it.
After 2000 years, humanity and in fact life in general is thriving. All it means is that the Christians who proclaim an imminent end have no sense of history and no sense of shame.

I think those passages refer to either the transfiguration or when he was raised from the dead. I would have to look that up
Edit –
Mark 9:1 refers to the transfiguration which is mentioned in the passage right after it.
Matthew 13:30-33 (parable of the mustard seed) doesn’t have anything to do with the world ending in the 1st or 2nd century.

I don’t see what the Matthew reference has to do with your question.
If you remember Jesus did return after His death on the cross and walked among them for 40 days.
The one who saw Him in His glory was John the Revelator when He was translated to Heaven and told to write down what he saw and heard.

Am’mi,
You say "world would end" I do not see that; He did reveal himself to many:
1 Corinthians 15:1-7
Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand;
By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain.
For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;
And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:
And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve:
After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep.
After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles.
Ephesians 3:21
Unto him [be] glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen.
How do you hear His speach?

They use 2 Peter 3:8 to say a day is like a thousand years to God. They think this somehow magically takes away all the imminent time statements, inspired by God.
But not all Christians use that escape. Preterists believe that God was faithful to His Word and returned within the lifetime of Jesus’ contemporaries, fulfilling all the prophesies within the time frame He said. If we study the history of the Roman Jewish War, (66-73CE) and the writings of Josephus the Jewish historian, it all makes sense.
Jesus returned and reigns today on the throne of His invisible Kingdom, in the new heavens and earth (new covenant.) Here is a link with more verses proving a 1st Century Parousia, and also a helpful timeline.
